Montreal-based APACALDA explores the pain and powerlessness that comes with watching a loved one struggle with addiction on their new video single “Dead Weight.”

The track, set to be featured on forthcoming album There’s a Shadow In My Room and It Isn’t Mine, hauntingly portrays the narrative of being tethered to someone’s self-destructive journey, unable to free them.

With its melancholic, grunge-laced indie rock sound, songwriter Cassandra Angheluta channels the visceral anguish of being caught in the endless cycle that plagues those who relapse. “True love, whether romantic or platonic, can be imprisoning. There are journeys – like addiction – that people ultimately have to face within themselves to find healing,” Angheluta says. “Watching them go through this is incredibly hard because you’re constantly battling the fear of losing them.”

“Dead Weight” also features the talents of bassist Mishka Stein (Patrick Watson, TEKE::TEKE) and Juno Award-winning producer Sam Woywitka, known for his work on Half Moon Run’s A Blemish in the Great Light. The result of this collaboration is a powerful sonic backdrop that mirrors the intensity of the turmoil explored in the song.

In addition to the single’s release, a striking visualizer directed by Montreal filmmaker Stephan Boissonneault is enhanced by vivid projections from Anthony Piazza, adding an extra layer of depth to the track’s gripping narrative.
