Everyone’s favourite brat returns on a stark companion to Emerald Fennell’s take on the literary gothic.
After a brutal year that saw North Country Collective lose their short-lived Vancouver basement venue to a fire, Johnny 99 returns with Mr. Lonely—an album far more uplifting than its name suggests. Leaning into loose-shouldered alt-country and the twang that’s become his signature, John Sponarski and his City and Colour collaborators turn heartbreak, hard luck, and stubborn hope into a good time for all. Slide guitars glow, the barstool wisdom lands easy; Mr. Lonely is doing fine indeed.
