Twenty years into his career, this project is a contender for his best work. After back-to-back albums that featured more experimental production, Shad returns to his backpacker hip-hop roots. Sonically, Start Anew is more colourful, which makes a perfect pairing for his thoughtful lyrics. He gives his perspective on the world as we know it without sounding preachy. One of the most refreshing rap albums of the year.
