We literally can’t think of a more perfect pairing. Vancouver-based Anishinaabe Métis and North African producer/DJ Handsome Tiger keeps his decolonial dance party going, joining forces with former RANGE cover stars Snotty Nose Rez Kids for “THAT’S REAL,” a thunderous rap-rave anthem rooted that had us fishing for our headphones.
Rooted in hometown pride and Indigenous sovereignty, the thunderous rap-rave anthem is built on seismic low end and powwow-inflected rhythms. The track also doubles as a mission statement: “We the first people, who’s really legal? There’s no illegals on stolen land — THAT’S REAL!”
Fresh off a charged LA show set against the backdrop of ICE raids, the collaborators channel urgency into something unifying and defiant. The chemistry runs deep — Handsome Tiger first connected with SNRK in 2021, eventually touring as their DJ. When he sent them the beat years ago, they told him to hold onto it. The moment finally arrived in summer 2025, driving through Vancity en route to the studio. As SNRK’s Yung Trybez puts it: “WE GOTTA BANGER!”
The warehouse-set video mirrors the track’s raw energy — dark, visceral, and undeniably West Coast to the core.
“That’s Real” previews First People II (out May 1 via Amelia Recordings), a bass manifesto bridging sound system culture, diasporic connection, and Indigenous futurism.
