Ottawa’s experimental arts mainstay Pique is marking a major milestone this summer, unveiling the lineup for its 5-year anniversary and 20th edition, continuing their mission to lift up and amplify some of the most exciting names in music and art.
Set to take over Arts Court on June 13, the festival has steadily evolved from a pandemic-born experiment into one of the most vital platforms in Ottawa’s underground arts ecosystem. Over the past five years, Pique has built a reputation for collapsing boundaries between disciplines—where club sets bleed into installation art, and theatre, sound, and digital experimentation coexist in a single, fluid environment.
This anniversary edition leans fully into that ethos. The lineup is stacked with artists who thrive in the in-between: the blistering, genre-warping intensity of Backxwash, avant-pop shapeshifter Elle Barbara, and the dub-heavy explorations of Honeydrip sit alongside boundary-pushing names like Hyd, Cleo Reed, and CHXMERAS. Elsewhere, Afrorack’s self-built modular synth experiments and Raf Reza’s bass-driven global fusions promise a dancefloor that’s as cerebral as it is physical.
More than just a stacked bill, Pique #20 reinforces what has made the series essential: accessibility and intention. The festival remains pay-what-you-can, ensuring that cutting-edge art doesn’t come with a gatekeeping price tag, while continuing to prioritize fair artist pay and inclusive programming.
With additional installations, symposium programming, and international collaborators still to be announced, this edition feels like both a reflection on what Pique has built—and a preview of where it’s headed next.
