American screenwriter and producer Dylan Meyer is making her directorial debut with The Wrong Girls, a stoner comedy that feels like the lovechild of Broad City and EuroTrip.

Meyer’s script comes to life through an incredibly stacked, comically talented cast, including Kristen Stewart, Alia Shawkat, LaKeith Stanfield, Seth Rogen, Kumail Nanjiani and Kate McKinnon. Meyer’s writing is funny in its own right, but the cast’s delivery – especially from Stewart and McKinnon – makes certain lines infinitely more quotable. “Uncertainty in the buffet sector? Is it me or is everything getting worse?” is just one example.

There’s a nostalgic feel throughout the film, with the titular wrong girls, Frankie and Molly, finding themselves in the absurd, faux-high-stakes scenarios. The lighting choices also fuel the nostalgic feel, with deliberately dramatic accent and neon lighting. Coupled with the prop and set design, The Wrong Girls becomes an extremely visually interesting watch. Similarly, the editing choices, including the double exposure sequences and early 2000s-comedy-timelapse montages, make the film feel vaguely familiar for anyone who is a fan of comedy classics.

The Wrong Girls is a must see for anyone who is looking for their next comfort watch. Beyond it simply being fabulously entertaining, it’s also an ode to friendship, making it exceedingly hard not to reminisce about all the stupid situations you’ve found yourself in with your best friend over the years. More than anything, the film is an excellent reminder to go out and do something ill-advised with your friends—you never know when you’ll end up as a subject-of-scientific-top-secret-testing-at-Stanford.
