With There Is Nothing In The Dark That Isn’t There In The Light, the veteran vocalist leans into intimate, searching folk.
On Jour 1596, perennial collaborators Ouri and Helena Deland follow up their self-titled, which was made over the span of eight days. By contrast, the compositions on Jour 1596 are drawn from the ensuing collaborations of those days. It’s groovy and airy, driven by the disparate ideas brought from Ouri’s classical and electronic background with Deland’s, as well as the collaboration of two artists bringing these sensations into a jagged, gauzy whole. At 26 minutes, the short runway adds to the punchy effect. It’s a testament to the necessity of contrast, and perhaps a bit of conflict, in collaboration.
