Everyone’s got their go-to pizza place but George Kalivas guarantees you haven’t really had a pizza until you’ve been to Windsor, Ontario.
When you think of the internationally celebrated and complex food group that is pizza, New York, Chicago, and naturally Italy all come to mind, but as the filmmaker sets out to prove in his first on-screen adventure, the blue-collar industrial city just across the river from Detroit is matter of factly, The Pizza City You’ve Never Heard Of.
Directed by Tristan Laughton, the road-trip documentary embarks on a mouth watering journey as Kalivas takes a break from his day job marketing hip-hop artists for Warner Music to channel his inner Anthony Bourdain while he interviews suppliers, owners, and all kinds of lovable pizza enthusiasts.
With an original score by producer Dom Dias, the recently released trailer for the film is enough to pique the interest of any true pizza freak looking for an adventure. “The biggest mistake you can make is hiding gems,” Kalivas says at one point in the film, making it clear that he doesn’t want you to sleep on this gastronomical opportunity to taste pizza made by Windsorites who have kept their unique techniques alive through generations.
What sets Windsor pizza apart from the rest? You’ll just have to wait until the film gets delivered to a theatre near you this fall. While you’re waiting, take a bite out of the trailer and get ready to add Windsor, Ontario to your bucket list.
