When you’re visibly marginalized, especially as an artist, every move you make becomes a question of advocacy. Nemahsis knows that all too well.

When the Palestinian-Canadian singer-songwriter was dropped by her label for espousing pro-Palestine views it looked to all be over. But Verbathim reveals an artist with so much more to give, with insightful, grounded ballads fuelled by lyrics reminiscent of early Lorde, and a creative vision that draws to mind Feist and other queens of Canadiana. She draws listeners deeper into her interior world — every quirk, ambition, and contradiction. It’s so much more than the sum of its parts.
