With There Is Nothing In The Dark That Isn’t There In The Light, the veteran vocalist leans into intimate, searching folk.
For someone that’s such a singular voice in the industry – based on his distinctly deep baritone and Elvis-style showmanship, you know when you’re hearing an Orville Peck tune – you wouldn’t expect a collab album to be his next move.
However, bringing acts like Willie Nelson, Elton John, Beck, Kylie Minogue and a variety of country/folk acts along for the ride is a great showcase of the interplay between the certain timelessness of Peck’s style, his influences and the peers he’s currently influencing himself. Unlocking a more fun side of himself and some stylistic diversions, Peck lets the horses loose.
