DVTR’s Deluxe EP Delivers New Punk Anthems and an Unexpected Twist

With biting lyrics, raucous riffs, and two new tracks, the Montreal duo adds depth and grit to their debut EP.

Before heading out on a monumental tour of Japan and South Korea, DVTR, the anarchical, yet satirical garage punk two-piece from Montreal, has decided to slap on a few more songs to their debut, 2023’s BONJOUR (EP). Now almost exactly one year later, we have the BONJOUR (BIS) (DELUXE EP), with the group’s two newest singles “Les Olympiques” and the ACAB punk anthem “Les Flics (sont des sacs à merde),” English for “(Cops are shit bags) leading the charge.

“Fruits frais,” has a driving bass line, met by a squeaky in-the-red guitar courtesy of Jean Divorce, and gang punk vocals. The outro of this track is pure punk rock carnage with its twisting melodic lines and cowbell rhythms — still a highlight of the whole EP.

The most surprising edition of this deluxe version is the song “Pied de Poule,” which clocks in at four and a half minutes, a rarity for a band hailed for their super straight-to-the-point punk songs. Still, this track is full of fatty and synthy teeth, almost diving into a Sandinista! reggae punk vibe with Demi Lune singing about a coward who has “chicken feet.” That’s a direct translation, although poule could also be a promiscuous woman in slang, or “pied de poule” could mean the houndstooth clothing pattern. This fun and vague wordplay gives the BONJOUR EP a reinvigoration within the punk scene and we’re already ready for more.
