Leith Ross Hangs On To Hope With I Can See The Future

The Juno-nominated artist stretches beyond folk minimalism without losing the intimacy that made them a generational voice.

Canadian indie rock singer-songwriter and guitarist Leith Ross writes like a friend whispering secrets across a kitchen table; soft, but unflinching. A confidant who carries grief and tenderness in the same breath. On their sophomore album I Can See The Future, that intimacy remains as Ross experiments with genre, while honouring their authenticity.

The project shimmers with stripped-back moments that sound like hushed lullabies, alongside pop-leaning tracks featuring pedal steel and electronics that push beyond Ross’s folk roots. At its core, the central theme is love, explored through community, longing, and loss.

Standout songs include single “Stay” which delivers emotional depth and yearning, blending soulful harmonies with a surprising mix of indie folk and R&B-leaning elements, and “What Are You Talking About,” which unfolds slowly, with raw, romantic instrumentation, letting each note and vocal line linger.

Glimmers of new directions – twinkling percussion, unexpected sonic textures and instruments including horns and fiddle, give the sense of expansion, allowing Ross’s music to breathe into larger spaces. Throughout, the constant is their voice and perspective, offering compassion, optimism, and faith in the goodness of others, a reminder that hope is what keeps us moving forward.

I Can See The Future broadens Ross’s range and deepens their ethos. It’s a dreamy and quietly radical record built to carry listeners forward with reflection, renewal, and the promise of what’s yet to come.
