For those who have never been to Treefort, this multidisciplinary festival is a five-day experience filled with performances, workshops, art classes, readings, and more. The timing of the festival is no accident either. Originally conceived as an event to re-route artists into the city before and after the beloved SXSW in Austin, TX, founder Eric Gilbert has created a destination music and arts event for artists and music fans alike. The ethos of the festival is immersed in strengthening ties with their Canadian neighbours to the north and Mexico to the south.

With more announcements yet to come, expect big things for the festival’s 11th year, but if “sit back and relax” is more of your style, then you’ll want to catch these stand-out performances from drag stars Kerri Colby and Big Dipper, comedian Tig Notaro, and renowned choreographer Joseph Hernandez. Don’t know what to do with the kids? While the kids are there, unwind with a glass of wine at Alefort where the choices between beer, ciders, wine and cocktails are endless.
