Wide Mouth Mason to be Inducted into Western Canadian Music Hall of Fame

Saskatoon hosts its first-ever BreakOut West with industry recognition and a three-night music festival.

The 2024 Western Canadian Music Awards are set to recognize key figures in the region’s music scene, with Saskatoon blues-rock trio Wide Mouth Mason leading the charge as this year’s inductees into the Western Canadian Music Hall of Fame. The band, known for their groundbreaking blend of genres and long-standing presence in Canadian rock, will take the stage on Sept. 27 at 11 p.m. for a Hall of Fame performance at Saskatoon’s Broadway Theatre.

In addition to Wide Mouth Mason’s recognition, the Heritage Award will go to acclaimed concert presenter Zandra Kaszas, whose contributions to the industry have spanned decades. Meanwhile, Amigos Cantina, a beloved venue in Saskatoon known for fostering local talent (and their super tasty burritos!), will receive the Kevin Walters Industry Builder Award for its lasting impact on the music community.

These honourees will be formally celebrated at the WCMA Industry Awards Brunch on Sept. 28, as part of the BreakOut West festivities taking place from September 25 to 29. The event marks the first time BreakOut West has been hosted in Saskatoon, featuring a three-night music festival, a career development conference, and a celebration of the best in Western Canadian music. The festival will also highlight talent from beyond Western Canada and a RANGE Magazine showcase on Saturday, Sept. 29 featuring Grimelda, Slightest Clue, Mellt, and more.
